Growing evidence of a gradually cooling economy helped push stocks higher once again Wednesday.   The S&P 500 rose 0.2%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 0.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5%, or around 164 points. Seven of the 11 sectors within the S&P 500 closed higher.  The major indexes have risen sharply so far this week, prompted by growing investor confidence that the Federal Reserve can achieve a so-called soft landing, a scenario where inflation drops but the economy avoids a significant contraction.  (WSJ – edited by QPI)
