The major U.S. stock indexes slipped Tuesday as investors awaited key inflation data and worries about the U.S. debt ceiling loomed over markets.  The S&P 500 fell -0.50%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average eased 0.20%, or about 57 points. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.60%.  Investors have been watching for progress on talks about raising the federal dect ceiling as the U.S. confronts the risk of defaulting on its obligations for the first time. The government could become unable to pay all of its bills on time as soon as June 1 if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has projected. (WSJ – edited by QPI)
